Mommy & Me in Mexico

A Mother & Daughter Trip to Remember

There are vacations, and then there are memory-making, belly-laughing, heart-hugging moments that stick with you for life. That’s what my trip to Cancun, Mexico with my daughter Ava was all about.

Not only was it a much-needed escape, it turned into one of the best memories we’ve shared together, and my favorite moment yet in Mexico.

Let’s Talk About the Photoshoot First…

Let me just say: this photoshoot was so much fun. Yes, I might’ve looked like I was auditioning for Sports Illustrated, but in reality, Ava and I were cracking up the entire time. Laughing at ourselves (and each other) for being so “extra.”

But here’s the best part, the photos turned out amazing.

If you’re ever in Cancun, DO THIS SHOOT. It only takes 20–30 minutes and includes 200+ edited photos. English and Spanish speakers are welcome.

Playa Marlin: white sand, turquoise water, and all the vibes

A Special Kind of Trip

As a mom of multiple children, I’ve come to realize something powerful: one-on-one time with each child is everything. Sure, I’m an involved mom. But this trip was different. It gave Ava and me space to:

  • Laugh freely
  • Talk deeply
  • Be silly
  • Feel safe
  • Make memories that are just ours
  • This trip was a gift to her, but also a gift to myself.

Where We Stayed

We booked an Airbnb in Cancun that gave us just what we wanted:

  • A private plunge pool (hello, morning dips!)
  • Quiet, low-crowd surroundings
  • Proximity to beaches, shops, and restaurants
  • Easy access to Uber, buses, and taxis

Here’s our Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/slink/6Ree06Bn

Tacos, Tortas, & Street Food (Oh My!)

We skipped fancy restaurants and hit up every taco truck we could find.

And let me tell you, these were the REAL tacos…not the Taco Bell, Tex-Mex kind.

We had:

  • Street tacos
  • Tortas
  • Fresh aguas frescas
  • And ended the trip with a facial and Cuban food, just hours before our flight

Day Trip to Yucatán : Culture, Cenotes & Chichén Itzá

We booked an all-day guided tour that included everything we needed:

  • Luxury bus ride
  • Bilingual guide
  • Entry tickets
  • Buffet lunch (with Mayan cuisine!)
  • Water & beer provided throughout the day

Stops included:

  • Chichén Itzá: One of the New 7 Wonders of the World
  • Cenote: Where Ava had the time of her life flipping into the water
  • Valladolid: Colorful and charming
  • Kaua: Where we tasted authentic regional food

My favorite: Chichén Itzá (history nerd here!)

Ava’s favorite: Cenote (clearly living her best Finding Nemo moment)

Final Thoughts

This wasn’t just a vacation. It was a core memory in the making.

As a busy mom, I sometimes forget how much simple, intentional time can mean to my kids, and to me.

“Exploring Cancún with my daughter was more than a vacation. It was a beautiful reminder that some of the best adventures are the ones we share hand in hand.”

So here’s your reminder:

  • You don’t need to spend a lot of money to create magic.
  • You just need a plan, a little sunshine, and some tacos.
  • Cancun, thank you for the memories.
  • Ava, thank you for your smile. It is everything.
